Update: Back Again!

Hi everybody!

I am writing this on a rare day that I am not at work!  Isn’t that fun? I thought I would give you a brief update before I head out to commence today’s long awaited chores. So, without further ado here’s where I’ve been and what you’ve got to look forward too on this blog.

I have been in Brighton from the 1st of August till the 8th and then from the 9th till the 13th have been non-stop working. My time has been equally taken up with evenings filled with seeing friends and watching live broadcasts from the RSC at our local cinema. As well, my dad’s birthday is coming up and I have decided to write a short story for him about the war.

So, as you can see I have had a lot on my plate. But here are some upcoming posts to look forward too.

  1. My time in Brighton, specifically visiting Virginia Woolf’s house and my experience there.
  2. A review on Dodie Smith’s ‘I Capture the Castle’ (I am super excited to talk about it).
  3. Another review on Titus Andronicus.
  4. My TBR list (University Reading List mainly).
  5. Daily updates on my shenanigans.
  6. Another review on Angela Carter’s ‘Nights at the Circus’ which I am currently a short way off finishing (I may have put it down after becoming a tad obsessed with Smith’s book).
  7. A review on Laura Marling’s music.
  8. How To Prep for University.

My focus for the last week or so has been on finishing off a journal of mine which was quite time consuming but great practice when it comes to writing. That’s all finished now (I wrote 43 pages in about two and a half days) so I feel very accomplished and can now spend a bit more time on this and my other blogs.

Anyway, I am already behind schedule so should crack on with getting to the bank.

Goodbye for now!

Life Update: Men Kicking Pigeons and Sneaking Into Chemistry Lectures

I am writing this in the past, so technically this in regards to yesterday. This is a rather impromptu post and as I type I am listening to Kelly Clarkson and my drunk flatmates partying in the kitchen.chem

So here’s the rundown…

In the morning I had a lecture and then nothing till 4pm after that. Me and Freya met up with the Science Guys (Ian, Molly and Ralph) for a little chit chat. Everyone was going to leave for there lectures/ seminars and I had nothing to do.

So I ended up tagging along to a Chemistry lecture and writing a billion and one notes on things that honestly make no sense.

Spectroscopy.

A word that despite being able to spell I am still unable to say out loud much to the amusement of my friends.

I have to say it was a very interesting and boring experience. But I was still an eager beaver about the entire thing. I bumped into another guy from our halls, Ben, in the lecture who looked bewildered to see me and then asked me why I had willingly chosen to go when he didn’t even want to turn up – and this was his course.

I think I drew attention to myself in the fact that as an English student I am used to taking a lot of notes. Barely anyone else in the lecture theatre touched their pens.

And at one point I was terrified because the lecturer woman started throwing out loads of mathematical/ scientific questions and walked right up the row beside me. I wanted to sink into the ground and kept my head down for fear of being called upon.

I don’t really know what I would have done. Probably panic and tell her random facts about Chaucer’s life. And then run away in true Esther fashion hehe.

Ralph and Ian kept looking at me to check that I was okay,  but for the most part I was having a wale of a time!

After that, we discovered that our seminar had been cancelled and therefore I had nothing to do for the rest of the day. I walked home with a spring in my step and went into the post office to grab some cards with the uni and Wollaton Hall on to send to my friends and family and then got some stamps.

fab pidgPlease don’t judge because it’s honestly a problem at this point…. I bought more books too. One on tarot readings, one on all the kings and queens of England and a Bowie biography. My beautiful Thin White Duke!

I popped home for some lunch and tidied my room (no silver fish today phewwww) and then me and Mols went and grabbed some flowers from town. It was on this outing that a very bizarre event occurred. A random man decided to boot a pigeon AT Molly. Yes, talk about animal abuse and just plain rudeness. He literally kicked the poor thing at her.

Why is my life so weird?

Bye for now,

Update: Adrenaline, Gloves and 1920’s Style Waitressing

Hey again,

I told you there were more things I needed to update you on so here I am. exercise

Todays been a bit of a hyper day for some odd reason, I have been feeling really energised and chirpy. I wander if it has anything to do with my new exercise regime.

I have been heading to the gym quite a lot lately and doing some running. At the moment I can do 40 minutes straight without stopping but I’m hoping to increase that soon.

Today I bumped into my future housemates and current friends at uni and we popped to Mooch the student bar for a while. One of their science buddies were there and as you can probably tell I basically talked his ear off.

Poor lad, getting stuck in a conversation with me is never ending. But oh well it was fun! I am also trying to convince Molly et al. to go to a karaoke bar! I may not be a very good singer but with a couple of drinks in me I would be more than willing to get up there and have some fun.

I have a few upcoming pieces for the uni magazine that I’m going to try and get done but that can wait a while. I just want to go out and partyyyy – damn I really am turning into a typical student, eh?

Oh well, what else can I update you guys on? My mum came down and visited me last weekend and that was really funny. We went into town and I took her to all my favourite charity/ vintage shops. We picked up some matching fingerless gloves, the type with faux fur on them.

But being us we did the most embarrassing thing as it turned out we were wearing them the wrong way round the entire day! We thought we were so cool with our new gloves when in fact we looked like complete plonkers! Someone told me when I got back and I cracked up and then had to ring my mum and tell her we had them on wrong.

“The girls at work were wondering, but I told them it was Nottingham fashion!” She exclaimed. Oh my, me and my mother really are identical!

lalaOther than that, I have a new job as a waitress- a different one due to hours. This one is at a heritage site though and is really lovely. I work in a really busy cafe on the Saturday but on the Sunday I’m a 1920s style waitress in a vintage tea shop in the main manor house.

I basically just set the tables, pop the record player on and take orders. It’s really fun and I get a cute 20s style pinny and I think we’re meant to have headbands too but they got lost last weekend.

It makes me feel like I’m in the Great Gatsby or something and even means I get to sneak bits of cake, yum!

But yeah, I’m going clubbing tomorrow night and to the student bar tonight and then this weekend it’s work and a visit from Alexerino.

Catch you up soon!

Student Story: Awkward Time at the GP

Hey there guys,

I have two film reviews that are underway but in the meantime I thought it might be fun to relay my experience at the Uni GP the other day.tmi

It  was quite a unique experience to say the very least.

So I apologise in advance if anything I am about to post is TMI but this is the trigger warning right here.

Still with me? Okay then, moving on…

For about two weeks I had been suffering with a UTI- if you don’t know what that means and need some clarification it basically felt like I was pissing fire everytime I went to the bathroom.

This is why I have the trigger warning.

I put it off and did every trick in the book- drank tonnes of water, bought health salts, avoided citrus, drank water and baking powder yada yada yada.

But nadda. Nothing. Nope.

So I caved and called the GP on campus and explained the situation, cringing the entire time.

And weirdly, they offered me an emergency appointment for that very day.
I am still pretty sure that emergency appointments should really be for more important things than urine infections, but then again the sooner I got the problem sorted the better really.

The latest appointment for that day though was halfway through my 2 hour lecture. So I went for half of it and got up and walked out half way through. Now this wouldn’t be a problem had it not been for the fact that the lecture had taken a long time to start due to technical problems.

So when I got up and awks-mermwalked out, everyone looked at me with shock, thinking I had enough. I even heard one person go “Oh shit!” and was later called “savage” by a girl in my seminar.

And to make things worse there are about 300+ people in my lectures.

Moving onto more awkward things… When I entered the GP’s office I was pretty much expecting to relay the problem, do a urine sample and get some antibiotics.

Which happened, but so did a lot of other things. Such as my GP getting all up in my sex life and even offering alternative positions etc.

“Now is your boyfriend always the one on top?” Hmmmmm… this is something I doubt I would tell my closest friends let alone a middle aged woman I had known for t-minus five minutes.

And then after asking about periods etc. She clapped her hands together and suggested I do a pregnancy test?!

Aaaaaagh! Can you imagine the panic? But I did the urine sample (I was so nervous walking to the bathrooms that I almost entered the mens, and then had to walk back holding the vial of wee) and then got my urine results.

As in she told me yes I did have a urine infection… And then she paused for a while. Now I was sitting on the edge of my seat because although I knew that THERE WAS A VERY VERY MINUTE POSSIBILITY I was still crapping myself waiting.

“Oh I forgot to say, you’re all clear- not pregnant.”

I almost collapsed onto the floor with relief. Even so, the way the nurse said it was kind of like lol I forgot to tell you everything’s fine.

Then I got given a whole lot of leaflets about birth control and was lectured again on how UTI’s were very common for girls in long distance relationships. And I kid you not her reasoning was that it’s because “You don’t see each other for ages and then when you do it’s just sex sex sex!” And then she banned me from doing the do for a while.

I wanted the ground to swallow me up.

But yes, that was my awkward student story time for this week. It was quite funny looking back and props to the lovely nurse for getting straight to the point. She was a lad.

Also, in case you were wondering (you probably weren’t and are more remalificent-awksgretting ever reading this post) I no longer have a UTI. Which I feel isn’t just a load off of my shoulders but also my friends.

Holly and Jack are testament to this as when we were in the library the other day they watched me get up and go to the toilet at least 5 times in an hour. To make things worse, the meds had a side effect of colouring the urine, so I would report back to them on the changing colours.

Nobody needed to know any of this.

I am sorry for anyone who made it to the end.

But ohhhh well! Talk more tomorrow!

Boxing Day; Cousins, Realisations and A Lot of Trivia

Hi guys, just thought I’d have a little check in to let you know how my day’s been. I mean technically it’s the 27th now but oh well we can pretend right.

I have had a dawning realisation since being home in this town and that’s that I’ve grownwho-cares out of a lot of things. The things that were important to me before are not anymore – not in a bad sense but just that they don’t mean life or death to me anymore as they used to.

I can live without a lot of things, I even find myself turning down social interactions just so I can crack on with my writing (you must have noticed that I’ve been a lot more active on this blog). I used to care about the number of likes and views on my blog, now I just care about the therapeutic nature of writing and having a place where I can store my life and memories.

So, what have I done today?

My Auntie and cousins came down from Coventry to visit us for boxing day and to be
honest I was a little apprehensive about the idea due to all the work I have had to do. In the end I really enjoyed going down and messing around with them all. It was a lot of fun meeting my cousins new boyfriend, chatting about anime and me lecturing them both on WW2 and literature.

(They’re both about to do their GCSE’s you see)

And joking around with my Aunt and Uncle, and chasing my little 7 year old cousin around the house- although the little sod did accidentally kick me in the throat. My friend Freya would have been impressed with his karate moves aha!

And then my parents friends Helen and Alex joined us too and we chatted about books and university life. It was incredibly fun, and then my cousins et al left and we all played trivia. Danny (brother) got peed off that he didn’t know any of the answers though and went upstairs sulkily.

Funny boy.

So yeah that’s howboxing-day my days been thus far. After that, I headed upstairs, danced to some Bowie and did some linguistic work. I was going to crack on with my Hero and Leander poem but to be honest I want a whole day to invest into researching and writing that up. And I was in the mood to get some work done whilst listening to music (something I can only do when writing notes and not when I actually have to be paying attention).

But yes, this has been my day. I could probably get through another workshop for linguistics but I’m knackered and would much rather watch some netflix and drift to sleep.

Also, I might as well document that my emotions have been a roller coaster of late and I stayed up till three am last night writing angrily in my journal and listening to The Clash.

I truly am a strange one…

P.S. ^^^ This is pretty much the only thing that comes up on Google Images when you type in Boxing Day gif…

Let Me Catch You Guys Up

A lot of shit has happened since I last spoke to you guys on here.

So basically I am now at University in Nottingham and moved right into my accommodation. The House is what I shall call it.

All my flat mates are lovely, so far I have two guys that are kinda like my older brothers, another two that we don’t see very much but are really nice and then there’s Molly and Kat. Molly is who I’ve bonded with the most and who I spend the most time with.

But at the mo I feel kinda out of things so I got up from the daily movie screening in her room with people to FINALLY update this blog. Sorry for keeping you all on the edge of your seats for so long.

Yes, Molly is basically a funny, hardcore gal from the Isle of Wight, weird I know, but it’s very much true.

Kat on the other hand I won’t lie did kinda intimidate me at first but she really is incredibly lovely and then there’s Monty the guy doing animal science who went to Eaton.

Fancy, am I right?

But yeah that’s the low down on all my flat mates and then the other people I’ve met are a whole nother story.

One that I have to mention would be Holly, the kooky, creative, street smart pal I have made for my classes- she’s a local Nottingham gal so she’s been showing me the ropes.

If I’m being honest it’s very difficult to describe university life because I seem to have fallen into a very comfortable pattern, I feel weird and there are a lot of things I would like to discuss on here but perhaps that’s better left for another day otherwise this post is going to be super long.

A few final points; we have a cat called Albi at the accommodation, I have a drama teacher  called Gordon Ramsay and I have joined the knitting society.

*Takes a breath*

Yep so that’s that for now, I shall try and give you another update on Monday probably. I was going to say Sunday but I may be too upset because Alex leaves for Coventry again at six (I’m seeing him this weekend, yay!)

See you soon,

E

Suicide Squad, Baby Ducklings, University & Books on my TBR List.

Hi there,

Long time no see, eh? Well for all those who wish to know I got into the University of Nottingham the other day to do a joint honour of English and History! Whoop whoop! I start late September and will update this blog as soon as I know what the hecks going on.

So onto other things. I went to see Suicide Squad today and over to Alex’s house today for the first time since our little hiccup. Everything was fine, thank goodness and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. They even have two little ducklings called Eggbert and Sweetie in an incubator at the moment. Soon to be new members of their animal family.

But yes, my thoughts on Suicide Squad? Well, seeing as Harley Quinn is one of my harley geopfavourite characters of all time I have been looking forward to seeing this movie for at least a year and although in my opinion I loved it, there were parts and patches that felt…. uh a little undeveloped.

I know quite a bit about Miss Quinzel and thought that her and the Jokers characters- although having flashbacks (not all of which made sense)- weren’t as focused on which was a shame since they are meant to be the main characters of the comics at least. That and the fact that Poison Ivy was absent really upset me.

So although I thought it was a good stand alone movie, I found the focus on Deadshot (Will Smith) to be overly emphasised despite him not being as major a character in the series as Harley and the others. So I could see why some die hard fans may have been a tad miffed – he was the core focus of the movie and the development of characters wasn’t as balanced as it should have been.

harley pinkBut Oh well, I still loved Harley ( me and Alex actually went to Halloween as Harley and the Joker last year… I’ll see if I can dig out the picture).

Anyway, onto my ever growing TBR list. I’ll admit I am in the middle of quite a number of novels at the moment but here are the major ones.

By the way I will be starting a series of book reviews and am open to receiving requests (email me if you’re interested) as well as joining forces with other bloggers to write some posts together. I still have a Liebster award post to get too as well… darn I got busy quickly.

TBR List:

  • The Princess Bride by William Goldmanprincess bride
  • The Monk by Matthew Lewis
  • Super Better by Jane McGonigal
  • The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

Yep, it’s a lot of reading to be doing and that with a publishing internship and being a team member of another site means that I am constantly writing.

Which is actually quite fun, so I’m not complaining.

Anyway, I’ll post more tomorrow!
