Daily Update: Prawn Crackers, Deadlines and Goodbyes

Hi again,

I appear to be doing a lot of journal-esque posts as of late. It’s because I’ve been working so much and have other deadlines that this blog has been a bit barren. But I hope my ramblings are sufficient entertainment for you all!

The last two days have been glorious because I haven’t been working. However, there was still a lot of low points which I will cover, but, also a lot of highs.

Yesterday didn’t have a fantastic start. It was riddled with misunderstandings which led to two very upset people. Although, in the end it turned out alright. Me and Ian headed to the canal and down into a tiny nook which was hidden away right next to the river. We sat and talked for a while and it was lovely and exactly what we both needed.

I think the problem was that I got so caught up in trying to please everyone that I forgot that I can actually put myself first. This is a core lesson that I’m still learning and although I found it difficult to communicate my annoyances and upsets- it was crucial in the end. The rest of the evening was spent with us eating Chinese and watching Outlander (something I got him into).

This morning was glorious. I had another lie in which was much needed after a week of waking at 7 am and we snuggled in bed and…. did other things until about half one. Then we got up and finished off some leftover takeaway for breakfast before then getting showered and dressed.

We also watched more Outlander.

It was quite sad though, because today was his last day with me as he was catching his train at half seven to go back to Brighton. I’m now not going to be seeing him for almost a month.

I have literally just written a sad poem on my other blog about saying goodbyes, if you haven’t already seen it here it is; https://goandcatchafallingstar.wordpress.com/

Moving on to more positive vibes. I responded to a couple of emails this morning and the result was a short story deadline for a Nottingham based magazine as well as some books that are being sent my way to review.

I am soooooooo excited, my fingers are already itching to write my story and I have two weeks or so to get it done. I have also just had another short story published online and have sent off an article on visiting Virginia Woolf’s house.

I might do another post and link it to my short stories online if any of you are interested?

I still have my father’s short story to finish as well… it looks I am going to be a busy gal!

Anyway my day finished with me walking back along the canal to get home chatting with my dad on the phone. I also met one of the old tenants again and chatted his ear off too. He seemed in awe of how the house had been transformed and gave me and Ralph some pro-tips on keeping it in a  liveable state.

So, although I am melancholy about Ian leaving I have more than enough to keep me occupied.

Ohhhh I just remembered I have university reading to do as well. I better crack on then!

See you tomorrow,

-E

Life Update: Cats, Clubbing and Hubba Bubba Bubbles.

Hey everyone,

lateeeeJust a little post before I finish some others in the line up. I have been super busy with uni work, work work and magazine writing. Yes, it sure has been chaotic at the moment but I have a spare moment and thought I would give you lot a little update on my life.

The title for this one is a tad weird and most of it is in regards today so lets get cracking!

I accidentally overslept today and ended up missing my 9am and I was particularly annoyed because it was on Chaucer- my favourite!

I will admit I have been feeling a little low of late, I have had a lot on my mind (personal stuffs) but I managed to pick myself up again today.

At around half twelve I strolled into uni, dodging open day crowds and being forced to wait in the longest SPAR line known to mankind- and all for a packet of crisps, a bottle of Dr Pepper and some bubble gum! Then I walked into the door trying to get into the Impact meeting (the uni magazine) and was immediately sated with fudge from Amy the head of the Arts department.

I say offered, she was pretty much shoving it at us because apparently her gran got her 50 hubba bubbaboxes of the stuff and she’s not the fondest of fudge. Not that I’m complaining, I have the sweetest tooth to mankind after all!

We then discussed Print ideas and I now have a long list of things I need to get done varying from a week- a months time. I have 2 book reviews, another short story and an interview with two booktubers to get done.

To be fair I am actually pretty excited and as we speak I am cracking on with my latest modern Shakespeare creative writing piece. After that we looked at the new layout for the mag (editor roles etc) got depressed and then realised that me and Dan were both late for Academic Community. Whoops!

Other than that I kept blowing hubba bubba bubbles on my walk home and made a fool out of myself (seriously when do I not?) when it backfired and got stuck all over my face. I also walked to uni with lipstick all over my teeth this morning- so that’s great too!

I got bacat.jpgck a while ago and have been chatting to people in the kitchen and mainly to Naveedh.
I also went into super ninja mode and snuck Albi the cat into my room for a fuss. Before Naveedh then insisted on shooing him out. Gawd I miss my Tango. Never mind hopefully I’ll see him over Easter.

I guess the only other thing worth mentioning would be that I went out a lot last week – this seems to be becoming a habit now which isn’t good! I considered fitting that into this post but I just realised my clubbing stories are something else and will probably need a post on their own.

Look out for that tomorrow then!

See you soon,

Life Update: Short Stories, St.David’s Day and Falling Over… A Lot.

Hey guys,

I have just gotten in from university and yes it has been a loooong time- but I have had a lot to keep me busy. I have been writing a lot for the university magazine Impact – I have awriting short story online as well as have just done a collab with Holly on a book horoscope piece.

So yeah life’s been going pretty well at the moment – which makes me pretty suspicious.

It was really funny earlier when I was in the kitchen because someone exclaimed, “Oh it’s St. Davids day!” and there was an audible pause in the room before Monty burst out laughing and said, “Of course it is!” and then we all looked at David at once.

I have one more little story before I head off (although I have some more from the past week that I will have to chat about tomorrow). Basically, I was skipping down the road yesterday feeling very happy – even though I was late for my seminar- when all of a sudden a man with a push chair came zooming around the corner.

pengBeing a polite lass, I went to slide out of his way, but then I went a little too fast and ended up doing a 360 twist before ending up looking like a turtle on its back, on the floor.

The worst thing is that I still had my earphones in and the guy was trying to ask if I was alright. But there’s always a silver lining to these incidents- as although my knees were skinned I didn’t rip my tights and I even ended up making a friend through it!

There was a girl behind me walking who stopped and helped me up. Her name was Boo and she was a fourth year philosophy student. We had a laugh about my clumsiness and walked together to our seminars. It was really weird actually because I mentioned that I wrote for the magazine and it turned out her boyfriend had read my Twelfth Night short story.

So yeah that’s just a snippet of the goings on over the last couple of days. I’m about to head out on a walk and then come back and crack on with some work.

Chat more tomorrow,

I Should Be Dressed Right Now.

Hi guys, I just thought I’d do a bit of an update before I go out to finish my Christmas shopping (yes I know, I am very disorganised).

I am back from uni for a little while and trying to get my life into order before January exams. You can imagine how well that’s going for me, right?

But yes, I am currently sitting on my bed procrastinating in my dressing gown and with a towel on my head. There is a ginger cat to my side and The Maine playing in the background (shout out to Holly – I know you’re reading this).

And I’m going to Kathryn’s tonight for her birthday with all the rest of the girlies and I’m feeling very nervous to say the least. I hope Beth likes her Secret Santa Gift, I did try hard. I also have to print off some pictures in town and finish off the photo album for Alex. I glitterhave become very DIY since going to university I must say. Especially after the Glitter Catastrophe that went down in the kitchen when I tried to make a backdrop for our drama assessment.

There is still glitter in that kitchen to this day. I swear to God I’m not even kidding ya.

Anyway, I just thought I’d fill you in that yes I am alive and if you haven’t been able to tell I have really been loving writing short stories of late.

beutI think I’m also going to go on to do a writing series on Shakespeare, specifically his second tetralogy seeing as that’s what I’ve got an exam in in…. exactly one month. So that’ll be Quick Tips on Richard 2nd, Henry 4th Part 1 and 2, and Henry 5th. Also all the critical theory that goes behind it. Sounds fun, right? Oh, and some reviews of the film versions too!

But anyway, I don’t know how much I’ll get to post tomorrow seeing as there’s a lot going on. But I’ll try to get something out if possible!

Speak soon,

-E
